EmulLab went public on October 9 as version 0.9.1. Since then I've been putting out bug fixes and new features as fast as they're ready, so the version number is going to move quickly between now and 1.0, planned for November 17.
How a new version reaches you
Every new version goes to testers first, as a test build. If it holds up for a week, it goes out to everyone. If it turns up a problem, it doesn't go out. The next version fixes it and goes out instead.
Why you might skip a number
Sometimes a newer version catches up with the ones ahead of it. That's happening now with 0.9.3 and 0.9.4. 0.9.5 finishes its week on October 17, with everything they have plus more, so 0.9.3 and 0.9.4 stay test builds. 0.9.2 goes out to everyone on October 16 and 0.9.5 the day after, so if you have 0.9.2, your next update is 0.9.5.
The same thing happens if you don't open EmulLab for a while: you go straight to the newest version, like 0.9.1 to 0.9.5 in one step. You don't miss anything. Each version has everything from the ones before it.
What updating looks like
While EmulLab is open, it checks for a new version about once a day and asks before installing it. To check now, choose EmulLab › Check for Updates….
After the update, What's New shows what changed. Every version's notes are at emullab.com/releases.
Updates never touch your original files. Photos you've already edited keep looking exactly as they did, and your settings stay as you left them.
What's coming since 0.9.1
- A short welcome that walks you through setup, including connecting your camera
- Two sample rolls to practice on, from Help › Get the Sample Rolls…
- Learn More links from the editing panels to the matching part of the manual
- Light mode, accent colors and a new Settings window
- Temperature and Tint
- A full set of crop tools
- Faster moving between frames, and Analyze Roll about five times faster
- Export progress, with a Cancel button
- Clearer messages when something's off, and a long list of bug fixes
Want them sooner?
Turn on Settings › Updates › Get test builds early, and you'll get each new version about a week before everyone else. Test builds can have bugs, since nobody else has used them yet. If something breaks, tell me with Help › Send Feedback. You can turn it off anytime, and you'll keep the version you have until the next one goes out to everyone.
If something doesn't work, or doesn't make sense, use Help › Send Feedback in the app or write to support@emullab.com. It comes straight to me.
Thanks for trying it.
